Continuing Amit’s Legacy of Compassion and Care

Our beloved Amit Amare was born in Tigray, Ethiopia, and immigrated to the United States in 1997 with her devoted husband of 28 years in pursuit of greater opportunities. She deeply loved her adopted country, where she lived for nearly three decades with her husband, their beloved children, and her mother.

Amit passed away on April 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with illness, and was laid to rest at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton, IL, on April 22, 2025. Though she is no longer with us, her memory lives on in the countless lives she touched. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and a dear friend to many—both in the United States and Ethiopia. She was known for her kindness, generosity, unwavering faith, and her deep compassion for others.

Even during her illness, Amit remained dedicated to helping those in need. She actively supported a health center in Nebelet and extended her love and care to children in an orphanage in Tigray. She had dreams of expanding her charitable work to reach more lives in Ethiopia and beyond.

Inspired by her selfless spirit and acts of kindness, her family and friends have made a solemn promise to carry on her legacy. That promise gave birth to the Amit Promise Foundation.

The foundation was created in response to the great humanitarian needs in Ethiopia—needs that have been intensified by natural disasters and ongoing conflict. The Amit Promise Foundation exists to continue the work Amit began: to provide charitable and educational support, especially to vulnerable children and women, and to help build a better future for entire communities.

Through this foundation, we honor Amit’s vision and keep her spirit alive. Her life was a testament to the power of love and service, and every act of compassion we carry out through the foundation is a reflection of her enduring legacy.

Therefore, we dedicate ourselves to this mission. The Amit Promise Foundation is hereby established to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes in accordance with Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
